The Research Center for Operations Management of KULeuven Faculty of Business and
Economics (Belgium) is looking for 3 full-time research assistants (m/f) for scientific research in
the area of operations management or supply chain management (OM/SCM). This research
should lead to a PhD-degree.
Positions 1 and 2: These 2 positions are offered for a 4-year period starting October 1,
2008 (position 1) or September 1, 2008 (position 2) A variety of research topics within the
field of OM/SCM are possible (e.g. within the areas of supply chain coordination, inventory
management, lot sizing, etc.). The research will be conducted under guidance of Profs.
Marc Lambrecht (position 1) or Inneke Van Nieuwenhuyse (position 2).
Position 3: The research will be conducted under a research grant from the Fund for
Scientific Research Flanders, under guidance of Prof. Erik Demeulemeester. It concerns
the topic “The design of efficient and effective algorithms for capacity planning in the health
care sector”. The position is offered for a 4-year period starting September 1, 2008.
Candidates should have a strong interest in operations management and preferably hold a
Master’s degree in Applied Economics, Econometrics, Economics, Mathematics, Computer
Science, Civil Engineering or Industrial Engineering. An average degree of “distinction” during
preliminary studies is required as well as an appropriate command of written and spoken English.
Experience with at least one programming language is an asset. Students that are currently in the
final year of their Masters are especially encouraged to apply.
