PhD Studentship in Bioinformatics and Functional Genomics

An exciting PhD position in Bioinformatics and Functional Genomics is available at the Marine Molecular Biology and Genomics group at the Bodø University College (Norway), in collaboration with the Bioinformatics department at the Principe Felipe Centro de Investigación (Valencia, Spain). Further information about the lab can be found on our web page at http://www.hibo.no/index.php?ID=13821.

The overall aim of this project, entitled ‘Gene Networks Involved in Pattern Recognition by Toll-like Receptors in Zebrafish’ is to characterize the genetic networks involved in pathogen-associated molecular pattern recognition by Toll-like receptors, using the zebrafish model system. In addition to improving our understanding of the fish immune system, this fundamental knowledge will be most important for the development of therapeutic agents against bacterial and viral pathogens of economically important fishes. We seek a motivated and enthusiastic candidate with an MSc in functional genomics, bioinformatics, systems biology, aquaculture or related disciplines. The ideal applicant will have a keen interest in microarray gene expression profiling and molecular biology, as well as strong programming skills. The appointment will be for a total of 3 years, pending successful evaluation after a one year probation period Applications must include a cover letter, résumé and PDF files of relevant publications. The deadline for applications is the 16th February 2009.
