PhD Scholarships for International Students [Estonia]

SCHOLARSHIPS FOR PhD STUDIES FOR NON-RESIDENT STUDENTS

The framework of the support scheme
Estonian government has launched strategic initiatives for supporting the internationalisation of the Estonian higher education and research institutions. Under the initiative study opportunities and scholarships are created for non-resident PhD students in the fields of natural and exact sciences, technology and medicine.

Requirements for students
The additional study positions are open for persons who are not residents of Estonian Republic . The candidates must have prior qualification that gives access to PhD studies and must start their studies in an Estonian university at the academic year subsequent to admission.

Scholarship and funding of research
The study grant equivalent to the standard public grants of PhD students is allocated to the grant holder. The amount of study grant for the academic year of 2007/2008 is 60 000 EEK (4 955 USD). In addition, a return travel to home once a year, a health insurance and a state fee for the residence permit during the nominal duration of the studies will be covered.

After the first year, the assessment of a student progress is made. Successful students will earn the right to free of charge study in a selected faculty and a full scholarship for the nominal length of studies. Graduates are regarded as a valuable asset for the Estonian higher education and research system and industry for a longer term.

PhD Scholarships in Infectious Disease Epidemiology, Mahidol-Oxford Tropical Medicine Research Unit [Thailand]

We are an international multidisciplinary collaboration between Mahidol University (Thailand) and Oxford University (England) carrying out research into infectious diseases throughout S and SE Asia.
Position: PhD Scholarship in infectious disease epidemiology.
Tuition fee and competitive stipend fee are fully supported.

Qualifications required:
1) Medical doctor or
2) Bachelors in nursing with Masters degree in related field, or
3) Candidates who are not medical officers but who have a first degree in a subject with a substantial mathematical component (eg Bachelors degree in mathematics, physics or statistics with a Masters degree in a related field) and are keen to work as part of a team in a multidisciplinary setting will also be considered.*

Job location: The post can be based either in Mahidol University, Bangkok or Sappasithiprasong Hospital, Ubon Ratchathani. Frequent visits to the other site will be required.

Employment term: Three years, full time.

The position will involve evaluating interventions to reduce the burden of hospital infections. This will require developing and analysing mathematical models and computer simulations, computer-based analyses, qualitative research, and co-ordination and analysis of an intervention study in Ubon Ratchathani. Findings will be published in international journals. Training in advanced epidemiological techniques including health economics and mathematical modelling will be provided both in Thailand and at international short-courses.

The job would be ideal for someone wishing to establish an international research career who is interested in working with a multidisciplinary team. Candidates should be able to demonstrate a high level of numeracy, be proficient in English and Thai, and have excellent organisational and communication skills.

The Science@Leuven Scholarship, 2010-2011, The Faculty of Science of the K.U.Leuven [Belgium]

The Faculty of Science of the K.U.Leuven and its Alumni Association Science@Leuven are proud to announce their new initiative: The Science@Leuven Scholarship! Motivated and talented international students, interested in participating in an international master programme of the Faculty of Science of the K.U.Leuven are invited to apply for a scholarship.

Amount of Scholarship
The amount of the scholarship can be up to 8.000 Euro for 1 year. The Board of the Science@Leuven Fund will decide exactly how much a scholarship will be. The scholarship will always cover the tuition fee for 1 year, the insurance and a basic health insurance coverage. The amount awarded for living expenses can vary.

Most master programmes of the Faculty of Science are 2-year programmes. A scholarship for the second master year is only awarded to students having had outstanding results the first master year.

Admission requirements
Applicants must meet and prove the following requirements:

  • the applicants have not studied or worked at the University of Leuven before,
  • the applicants have a bachelor degree from a foreign university that gives them access to the master programme they are applying for,
  • the applicants can prove having had excellent study results during their former training,
  • the applicants show strong motivation to follow a master programme at the Faculty of Science of the K.U.Leuven
  • the applicants are willing to act as an ambassador for the programme.

Master Scholarships in Economics and Market Policy, University of Bologna [Italy]

The Faculty of Economics in Rimini (University of Bologna) is launching an International Laurea Magistralis “Economics and Market Policy” (EPM) for next academic year 2010/2011. It is a two-year programme and is equivalent to an M-Phil or M.Sc. Degree.
The programme offers core courses in quantitative economics and a number of elective courses, has a flexible structure and can be tailored to suit both practitioners and research profiles.

Master Scholarships in Banking and Entrepreneurship [Italy]

After its first seven successful editions, that have involved more than 150 participants coming from Italy and Eastern Europe Countries, the eight edition of the “New Europe Master in Banking and Entrepreneurship” is starting on October 13th 2010.

The Master lasts one year and includes a 3-month internship, a sort of on-the-job-training in one of the banks belonging to UniCredit Group. It aims at giving graduates and young professionals the opportunity to gain specific knowledge of the European Banking System and its multiple relations with the world of finance and the entrepreneurship.
