3 Post-Doctoral Short-Term Scholarships in Transcultural Studies

The Graduate Programme for Transcultural Studies (GPTS) is part of the Cluster of Excellence “Asia and Europe in a Global Context: Shifting Asymmetries in Cultural Flows” at Heidelberg University (www.asia-europe.uni-heidelberg.de). The objective of the Cluster is to examine processes of cultural exchange with a strong focus on interdisciplinary research. The Cluster challenges the master narrative of asymmetrical Western domination along with its historical explanation, its methodology and the resulting structures of humanities and social science research.

For 2009 the GPTS offers
3 Post-Doctoral Short-Term Scholarships in Transcultural Studies

The post-doctoral short-term scholarships are awarded for a period of 3 to 6 months in 2009 and are terminated until the end of January 2010 at the latest. The Scholarships include travel expenses to Heidelberg and back home as well as a monthly stipend of 1.400,- €. The selected scholarship holders are expected to take residence in Heidelberg for the scholarship period and become research fellows of the Cluster. Post-doctoral scholarship holders are asked to teach one workshop and give a talk at the Karl Jaspers Centre for Advanced Transcultural Studies, the institutional home of the Cluster “Asia and Europe in a Global Context: Shifting Asymmetries in Cultural Flows”.

The post-doctoral short-term scholarship addresses applicants whose post-doctoral project fits into one of the four research areas of the Cluster (www.asia-europe.uni-heidelberg.de/Plone/research/areas).
