The Nuffield Department of Medicine Four year PhD Prize Studentships

The Nuffield Department of Medicine at the University of Oxford hosts
one of the largest groupings of Biomedical Researchers in the
University Sector. It is noted for excellence in both basic science
and clinical research across a wide range of fields (rated 5 star; in
research assessment exercises). The Department has internationally
renowned programmes in immunology, biochemistry, structural biology,
genetics, bioinformatics, infectious disease, molecular and cell
biology, cancer, endocrinology and metabolic medicine, haematology,
clinical trials and epidemiology, and tropical medicine. The
Department is committed to training the next generation of scientists
in biological and clinical sciences through its graduate programme in
the University of Oxford.

The four year PhD Prize Studentships are our flagship fully-funded
awards, which are open to outstanding candidates of any nationality
without restriction. Support for the programme comes from a variety of
sources including the University of Oxford, the Ludwig Institute for
Cancer Research, Medical Research Council and Clarendon Fund. In 2009
we expect to make at least 20 awards to students of the highest
calibre. Students are full members of the University of Oxford and
receive a stipend of £16,000/annum. These awards allow students to
focus on research in a single laboratory for the full 4 years.

More details on the application process and the wide range of projects
are available on the NDM website. Individual supervisors can also be
contacted by email about their projects. The closing date for
applications is 9th January 2009 and interviews will take place
between the 28th and 30th of January 2009.
